USS Cincinnati Cold War Memorial - Peace Pavilion

Veteran Memorial support opportunity

I am on the executive committee that is using actual parts of the submarine to build a Memorial to honor those that served on the sub USS Cincinnati and those that served in the military during the cold war. The memorial will be adjacent to the "Voice Of America" which was instrumental to getting the real news to those first in Germany during WWII and then behind the Iron curtain during the Cold War. This site is located on Tylersville Road, West Chester Township, Butler County. We started this quest in 2000 after the sub was decommissioned. In 2013 we brought 200,000 pounds of the sub to the city from Puget Sound in the state of Washington, they are the sail, rudder and diesel engine. The diesel was the only one painted RED, that's because the sub was built during the Reds 75 and 76 seasons, it was affectionately known as "The Big Red Machine". We had several delays due to having a location that would fit our purpose, $6.25 Million of the funding has been secured, we are looking for an additional $3 Million for perpetual upkeep. Construction is scheduled to start late March 2024 with a dedication date of April 11, 2025 the 125th anniversary of the submarine service.

As a group we raise money for various charities or lend our muscle where needed. Personally, I coordinate a group of 60 members/family/friends (20 per game or concert) to work at the Bengals stadium to raise money to fund our various projects and causes. I also participate in many other K of C projects. Many of my best friends came from being a member of the K of C. The "doers" in our council come from all walks of life and we tend to look out for each other. The benefits that I have received from being a member of the K of C far exceeds whatever work and time that I have put in over the past 10 years.
